Book Review - My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine
My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine
Cassie Greenburg is a down-on-her-luck artist who's about to be evicted from her apartment. But when she sees an ad for an apartment in a fancy neighborhood that's rent is only $200, how could she say no? She meets the owner of the apartment, Frederick J. Fitzwilliam, who is a little strange. Some of his house rules include not disturbing his sleep during daylight hours and never going into his bedroom or opening the hallway closet. Plus he talks (and looks) like he just came out of Bridgerton. Somehow Cassie misses all the clues until one day she comes home from work early and finds blood bags in the fridge. So Frederick is a vampire, a three-hundred-year-old one, who needs a modern person to help him fit in with the modern world. Cassie can either turn heel and run, or she can agree to help Frederick despite the fact that he didn't disclose that he was a vampire.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. Cassie was really relatable as a female main character. The things that she struggled with are things that anyone can relate to. I thought her character growth was really good, and I liked how things worked out for her at the end. And swoon-worthy Frederick. I can't explain how much I love him. He's such a gentleman, and he's sweet and thoughtful. He's such a well-written "perfect" male main character. I also loved Reginald. If you read this book, you'll understand. He's just such a goof. I just really liked the characters in this story.
This book was cute and sweet. It was such a light-hearted read. I wish I had read it before Halloween because it would've had the perfect spooky but happy vibes. The plot was low-stakes, which isn't like the other stories that I normally read, but I still really enjoyed reading it. I do think that the ending felt a little weird and rushed. Are we just meant to believe that other vampires (I won't spoil who) are just going to leave Frederick and Cassie alone now? Regardless, I thought this book was super cute and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a low-stakes, feel-good romance.
