Book Review - Ruthless Heart by Roxy Sloane
Ruthless Heart by Roxy Sloane
I had previously read Roxy Sloane's Oxford series and absolutely loved it. So when I saw this book on Kindle Unlimited and read the description, I knew I had to read it.
Ruthless Heart is a dark mafia romance and describes the story of Nero and Lily. At sixteen years old, Lily fell in love with Nero Barretti, the son of infamous mafia leader Roman Barretti. But Lily's father, who worked for Roman, betrayed his boss and his family had to go into hiding. Ten years later, Lily is working a long shift as a waitress when no other than Nero Barretti walks in. Lily is then taken by the mafia boss. Will the now ruthless Nero make her pay for the crimes of her family? Or will Lily be able to crack the ice around Nero's heart and rekindle their old flame?
I thought that the characters in this story were good, but nothing special. Honestly, Lily was a little annoying. She made such bad decisions throughout the whole thing, and it got so frustrating to read. Also, Nero is said to be this big bad mafia boss, but we don't really see him do anything all that bad. So it felt a lot like just telling rather than showing. I did enjoy the story though. Often times, I start not caring about the story because the characters just aren't the best, but that wasn't the case in this book.
Overall an entertaining low-stakes mafia romance.
