Book Review - A Kiss of Iron by Clare Sager

A Kiss of Iron by Clare Sager

This book was like a dark fantasy version of Bridgerton, but in the best way. This was another quick read for me, I finished it in two sittings, but I very much enjoyed reading this book. In this book, we have Kat, a woman who has been powerless against the men in her life for her entire life. She's about to lose her house when she's invited to court to be a spy, but things are never as simple as they seem. She ends up falling for Bastian, the fae who she's meant to be spying on. Their relationship grows naturally throughout the story but something about it just left me frustrated. Although the author did their best to create a sense of understanding between Kat and Bastian, I felt as though their relationship was superficial. But maybe that's just me.

This book is full of twists, turns, and betrayals. I wasn't completely shocked when the villain was revealed at the end. At one point in the story, I had suspected who it would be but brushed the feeling aside. Regardless, this story wrapped up very well and all the events we see throughout the book get explained. This book finishes with a major cliffhanger and once again I have to wait to read the sequel. This book could've been standalone if not for the cliffhanger ending. I will read the sequel, A Touch of Poison, when it is released in September though.

But I think I'll have to make sure the next book I read is not part of an unfinished series.
