Book Review - Ambrosia by C.N. Crawford

Ambrosia by C.N. Crawford

This book perfectly concluded Torin and Ava's story. The last book, Frost, concluded with a shocking revelation that Ava was Unseelie after she accidentally made a portal after asking to go "home." Then she realized why those at the Seelie court were so unsettled by her presence.

This book describes the aftermath of what happened after Ava and Torin went through the portal and entered the Unseelie kingdom. Morgant, a cruel captor, and Queen Mab torture both Torin and Ava to try to get information. Several times they attempted to escape and were recaptured, and Ava unlocks her magic during this process. During this time, those at Seelie court (Moria) convinced everyone that Torin had abandoned them and conspired with the demons (the Unseelie), which allowed Moria to take control. Eventually, Torin is able to make his way back to the Fairie (the Seelie kingdom), but he isn't welcomed and they attempt to kill him. Ava ends up making her way back to Fairie as well and helping Torin save the kingdom.

Now the beginning of this book was okay, I enjoyed reading it because the pacing was good. But the last 20% or so of the book felt really rushed. Basically everything after finding out the shocking truth about where Ava really came from (spoiler, she's Queen Mab's daughter and Morgant's brother, making her the Unseelie heir). I feel like I missed something though because Ava just quickly forgives her mom and brother for the torture and just attributes it to tough love essentially. It's just so weird because there was just no explanation for why their relationship became so civil.

Despite this, I did like how the book ended. I wish the last chapter was in Ava's point of view rather than Shalini's but I still thought it explained the ending well. I read the extra chapter that was on the publisher's website that was linked to the end of the kindle book and thought that the extra chapter should've been a part of the actual story. Without it, the story is still complete but doesn't quite come full circle.

Overall, it was a good book and I enjoyed reading it, but I did enjoy the first book more.
