Book Review - The Ashes & The Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent
The Ashes & The Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent
I am so happy to be reading this sequel! I initially read The Serpent and the Wings of the Night right at the beginning of April and was glad that I didn't have to wait long for this sequel. Right off the bat, from the Prologue, I knew this would be an amazing read.
Words cannot begin to describe how much I love this book and series so far. Carissa Broadbent has woven such an intricate and emotional story that just has me wanting more. This book is a sequel to The Serpent & The Wings of the Night and picks up right where it left off at it’s heartbreaking end: with Oraya and Raihn as the Heirs and Leaders to the Hiaj and Rishan lines.
This book brought so much more clarity that explained Raihns actions in the last book (you know, where he killed Vincent, Oraya’s father). I loved how the author explored Oraya’s heartbreak and emotions after the loss of her father, and the loss of trust from someone she thought she could trust. We also hear more about Raihn’s struggles, as he finds himself in an alliance he doesn’t want but desperately needs. And one of my favorite things, if not the favorite thing, about this book is that we learn more about Vincent’s life and secrets. I don’t know what it is about Broadbent’s writing, but I found myself so emotionally attached to every character. Each character in this book, and even the last, has such depth. Each character grows so much throughout this book. I just cannot say enough good things about how this book was written.
The ending of this book wraps up so well, and although there are some loose ends (obviously, since there are more intended books in the series) I feel as though Raihn and Oraya’s story came full circle. Although I do absolutely love both Raihn and Oraya, I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series whenever they are released and am excited to learn more about the other characters and Houses.
This is the kind of series that I just know I’m going to reread over and over and still enjoy it as much as the first time I ever read it. It’s that good. Absolutely recommend this series to all dark fantasy, romance lovers out there.
