Book Review - A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal by Holly Renee

A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal by Holly Renee

I went right into this book after reading A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows and I think this one was slightly better. The plot was a lot slower, and most of the book was about Adara's internal struggle in dealing with the aftermath of finding out that Evren is the prince of the Blood Realm. Because of this, I actually started getting really annoyed with Adara. One second she wanted nothing to do with Evren, and the next she was proclaiming that they were mates and she doesn't want to be without him. It could've been tolerable if it didn't take place throughout the entire book.

Other than that, I have no other complaints. I loved the characters we meet in this book. Thalia and Sorin are Evren's best friends and over time they become Adara's best friends as well. Thalia became one of my favorite characters in the series because of her strength and dedication to her friends. We find out that she was actually once a Starblessed that Gavrill used to feed on before Evren helped her escape. So Adara had someone who could understand her situation.

The plot twist at the end was completely predictable, and I saw it coming from miles away. About halfway through the book I had predicted what would happen. But knowing so didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book.

I'm about to read the final installment of the series. My expectations aren't the highest but I'm sure it'll be entertaining. So far the books in this series have just been good, not great. But I'm hoping the last one is better than the second.
