Book Review - You've Reached Sam by Dustin Thao

You've Reached Sam by Dustin Thao

Sometimes you just get that feeling that a book will change your life without even finishing it. Just a few chapters in, I knew this would be one of those books for me. I don't even know how to go about describing my feelings for this book. It's beautifully heartbreaking.

This book is written from the perspective of Julie, a 17-year-old who had her entire future planned with her boyfriend Sam. Everything changes when Sam dies unexpectedly. Lost in her grief, Julie does what she can to try to forget Sam. Until she dials his number on the phone, and he actually picks up.

This book has such an interesting take on grief and loss, and the author perfectly captures each emotion. The relationship that Julie forms with Sam's best friend, Oliver, is just perfect. Although they never really got along when Sam was alive, after his death they become good friends. I also love the way Julie becomes closer to all her other friends as well.

I can never say enough good things about this book. Although it felt like not much happened in the plot, I feel like I've been on an emotional journey. The characters and the emotions are just so real.
