Book Review - Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton

Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton

"Wow" is all I have to say after reading this book. I thought it couldn't get much darker after the first book but I was proven horribly wrong. This book is so much darker, both in theme and content than Haunting Adeline. The first book felt like more of a psychological thriller, while this one was just more gory and full of extremely graphic scenes. If you read this book, absolutely be sure to heed the trigger/content warnings. This book is not for the faint of heart.

I became so invested in Addie and Zade's story in the first book, and it only followed through into this book. Haunting Adeline ended with Addie being kidnapped by The Society. Part I of Hunting Adeline describes the horrors that Adeline went through after being forced into human trafficking. Part II describes what happens in the aftermath of Adeline's escape from her captors.

This book had me really going through it. I was on a rollercoaster of emotions, from horror to disgust to sadness to relief. This series is the first one that has ever elicited such visceral physical responses. Some of the scenes in this book specifically made me feel physically sick and nauseous.

I really enjoyed that this book didn't feel rushed. As readers, we were forced to go through everything with the characters. We feel their pain and determination to work through the trauma. I was so impressed with the quality of the author's writing. It's going to be hard to read books going forward knowing that many won't live up to this series.
