Book Review - Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa

Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa

Rhapsodic is a story about a siren, Callypso, who struck some deals with The Bargainer when she was 16. Every time she makes a deal with The Bargainer, he adds a bead to her bracelet. Over the period of a few years, she racks up a good number of beads in exchange for him providing her with companionship, but he's never asked for repayment. One day, he disappeared from her life and she doesn't hear from him. Until randomly, seven years later, he shows up in her life again and tells her he's here to collect his repayments.

I really enjoyed this book and story and I'm glad it was available from Kindle Unlimited. But it does annoy me that only the first book in this series is available from KU. I mean, I understand why authors do this because if they can hook someone in then they can get paid for them reading any of the sequels, but it still rubs me the wrong way.

That aside, I thought this book was really good. The plot was so unique and full of unexpected twists and turns. I really liked how the book was organized. Almost every chapter started with a throwback and then went back to the present time. So it was almost as if two stories were being told simultaneously. I really liked the main characters, Callie and Des, and their relationship. Even though Des seems like a jerk at first, we find out that he never really meant to abandon her all those years ago.

Even though I liked this book, I'm not sure I liked it enough to pay for the next books.
