Book Review - My Dark Romeo by Parker S. Huntington & L.J. Shen

My Dark Romeo by Parker S. Huntington  & L.J. Shen

So this book starts off with the acknowledgment "to all the girls eager to marry a grumpy, tortured billionaire... This one is not for you." But this book felt like it was showing the total opposite. So right off the bat, it's confusing. Not only this, but apparently this book is a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I didn't get that vibe at all. I had never read a book by Parker S. Huntington or L.J. Shen before, and I'm sad to say that I don't think I'll be reading one again. The main characters were insufferable and I hated basically everything about them. The only parts of this book that I truly enjoyed reading were the messages between Romeo and his friends Ollie and Zach. I could read an entire book about the friendship between Romeo, Ollie, and Zach.

The female main character is Dallas Townsend, the sheltered, out-of-touch, naive daughter of a rich southern family. What could've been an extremely complex character somehow was diminished to only having two personality traits: loving food and wanting to have a baby more than anything else. I disliked that after marrying Romeo, her family basically disappears from her life (despite her being so close to her younger sister).

Romeo Costa, Dallas' love interest, has much more character depth. We learn a lot more about his family history and story than we do about Dallas. Even so, the relationship between him and Dallas was so hot and cold that it didn't make sense. So many of the spicy scenes were so cringey. No way in hell a hot billionaire who doesn't want children would be doing it with a girl with clothes on to keep her from getting pregnant. Like what the actual hell? It makes no sense and is so unbelievable.

I really wished I would've liked this book more but I just didn't.
