Book Review - Captured by Lauren Biel

Captured by Lauren Biel

If I thought I needed therapy after reading the Cat & Mouse duet by H.D. Carlton, but those books were walks in the park compared to this one. This book is DARK, like pitch-black dark. The dark contents of this book have led it to be banned at some points. I did know this going into it, but honestly, nothing could have prepared me. Seriously heed the trigger/content warnings if you're interested in reading this book.

Ophelia is a woman who lives with her abusive stepfather and works at her local diner. She's kidnapped by Alexzander and Gunnir who are two brothers who have been kidnapping women and abusing and murdering them for a long time. Despite the fact that both brothers kidnapped her, Alex becomes possessive and obsessed with her and does what he can to protect her from Gunnir, but although he can do good deeds it doesn't mean he's a good guy. He still continually commits atrocious actions throughout the book and finds it difficult to go against his brother, who's arguably the crueler of the two.

Although I hated almost every single character in this book, I do think that the character development in this book was pretty good. Multiple characters learned to stand up for themselves and grow above their situations. Despite this, I found it hard to enjoy this book. I'm all for dark romance/horror, but this just felt so dark and so many scenes made me feel nauseous. Although it wasn't my cup of tea, I'm sure there are people out there who would enjoy reading this. Just mind the trigger/content warnings.
