Book Review - Blood Lands by Stacey Marie Brown
Blood Lands by Stacey Marie Brown
I know I keep saying it, but I seriously cannot get enough of this series. What kind of drug did Stacey Marie Brown infuse into her writing? I mean I've read books with similar plot points, characters, etc. but there's just something about this series that makes it all work in such a unique way. I have to force myself to stop reading these books because I will neglect everything else I need to do if I don't.
This book picks up right after Brexley and her friends were taken into Věrhăza, an upgraded version of Halálház where she was imprisoned before. Under Killian's control, Věrhăza was created to be impenetrable and inescapable. And now, under Istvan's control, Věrhăza is a literal hell. Torture, starvation, and all of the horrors of the worst prison you can imagine are everyday occurrences.
Brutal and dark are two words I'd choose to describe Blood Lands. There is a lot of abuse, harassment, torture, and other things that regularly take place throughout this book. Just when you think it's getting better for the characters, a plot twist occurs, and they're once again in danger.
Throughout this book, Brexley knows the location of the nectar that everyone is looking for and tries to keep it from getting into the wrong hands. I was shocked when I found out who betrays them in Věrhăza and reveals to Istvan the location of the nectar. I never even suspected that it would be someone that close to them. Not only that but what happened at the end also surprised me. Throughout this series, Brex has been trying to keep herself from succumbing to the darkness and ultimately it ended up claiming her.
The cliffhanger ending of this book is so good and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book even though I'm sad that the series is coming to an ending.
