Book Review - Shadow Lands by Stacey Marie Brown

Shadow Lands by Stacey Marie Brown

The final installment of the Savage Lands series, and I am so sad that it's over. I'll be honest, this book took me so long to read. It took over a week for me to get through this book when normally it takes a day or two. I think it was because I knew that this book signifies the end of the series. However, this is not a reflection of the book because I still loved this book.

I loved the plot of this book. The pacing felt a lot slower and more natural than in the past book or two. Specifically, the last book felt so fast-paced that it was dizzying. The pacing of this book allowed us to breathe after the huge rollercoaster we've been on throughout this series. This book takes off after Brexley goes off on her own and describes the events that occur while she's away and her reunion with the gang.

I thought that the introduction of the multiple POVs in this book was an interesting choice by the author but I can't say I really enjoyed it. I thought it worked well to show what was happening to different characters at the same time. But I also thought that it got confusing. There wasn't enough of a difference between each character's POV to make it unique. And I often found myself going back to check who was narrating. Despite this I still thoroughly enjoyed this book.

The character development in this book is unmatched by any of the previous books. Brexley grew so much during her time away from Warwick and everyone else. I loved the new character Esmeralda and how she helped Brexley learn to control her powers. Also *spoiler* but I absolutely LOVE that Tad came back (through Esmeralda) too and that he wasn't truly dead. But OH MY GOD... that ending??? All I'm going to say is that Ash deserved so much better. Overall though I would say that the series wrapped up very well and the story could be considered "complete." I enjoyed this series so much and I'm so glad that I read it. I would recommend this to anyone who loves dystopian fantasy or urban fantasy novels (that contain a decent amount of spice).
