Book Review - What Lies Beyond the Veil by Harper L. Woods

What Lies Beyond the Veil by Harper L. Woods

I've been meaning to start this series for a long time now. I've read The Coven and The Cursed by Harper L. Woods previously and thought they were pretty good. Although I love witchy/devil stories, I remain partial to fae romance, so I was excited to read this book because it was all over BookTok for a while.

Estrella is the main character in this story, and she's angry at the way the world is. Humans were at the mercy of the Fae until 400 years ago when some witches sacrificed their lives to protect humans by creating The Veil that separates Alfeimr, the Fae world, from the human world. But one day, the Veil breaks and Estrella finds a mate mark on herself, meaning that she is mated to a Fae who will hunt her until she is found. Along her journey to hide and escape, she runs into a man named Caelum who has a mate mark just like her. Together they find The Resistance and get closer.

I really enjoyed this book and its characters. Estrella is a strong heroine who can hold her own against others. She's gone through a lot in her life but she's still stayed strong through it all. I only wished she questioned her brother and Caelum more before blindly trusting them. But Caelum is like the perfect possessive Fae boyfriend that anyone could ever want, so I get it.

There were a lot of points in the story where I already knew exactly what would happen. And I was there screaming at Estrella to open her eyes because the signs were all literally right in front of her. But regardless, I like Harper L. Woods' writing style and I really enjoyed reading this book.
