Book Review - Fangs and Frenemies by Sierra Cross

Fangs and Frenemies by Sierra Cross

I found this book when I looked up cozy witch stories on Kindle Unlimited, and it did not disappoint. This was a very low-stakes cozy mystery that kept me entertained throughout the whole story.

Hazel Greenwood lives in Blue Moon Bay and is a Green witch, just like her grandmother. Green witches are rarer than other witches like Beige witches, and Hazel has always felt outcasted because of it. However, she uses her magic to help her grandmother run a bakery which is her happy place. That is, until a new cafe/bakery in town threatens their business. Not only that, but one of Hazel’s old high school classmates just went missing, and Hazel’s boyfriend is a suspect. She has to work with her old friends (now, frenemies) to help figure out who’s the culprit. Can they put their differences aside to solve the mystery?

I thought this was a cute story. The plot was very low-stakes and to be honest, not much happened, aside from the disappearance of Ashley and the mystery-solving (which they didn’t even really solve to be honest because a lot of the discoveries were revealed to them through other characters). Despite this criticism, though, I still really enjoyed reading this book because it didn’t feel as predictable as other similar mysteries can be. I also liked the characters. Hazel was really funny (and her humor included a lot of wordplay which is similar to mine). I thought Bryson deserved better to be honest, he was such a good boyfriend to Hazel (despite withholding some truth from her).

Overall, I thought this was a cozy read and I enjoyed reading it, but I don’t think I’ll be reading any sequels.
