Book Review - The Prince of Prohibition by Marilyn Marks

The Prince of Prohibition by Marilyn Marks

The description for this book describes it as ACOTAR meets The Great Gatsby, and although I haven't read ACOTAR yet, I can say that it's such an accurate description. I really enjoyed this story and I cannot wait for the next book, The Veil of Violence, to be released. If you don't like cliffhangers, wait to read this book until the next book is released.

The Prince of Prohibition takes place in the 1920s. Adeline is a woman who grew up her entire life seeing things and creatures that no one else could see. Every night on the new moon, her dreams would be plagued by the same dark prince. When she moves to New York City, Adeline thinks she'll be able to have a new start, but while there, she meets billionaire gangster Jack Warren who tries to lure her into his lifestyle. Jack Warren reveals himself to be something supernatural, something that Adeline never knew existed, and he promises that he can help Adeline become very powerful. Adeline has an option to let Jack seduce her, or listen to her family who has warned her to avoid the darkness throughout her life.

HI liked the characters in this book, especially Adeline. It was really interesting to see her navigate the world as a woman in the 1920s, especially one who grew up in a more rural area before moving to NYC. I thought that she was a really strong character, despite ev everything she went through. I did like Jack Warren's character, but to be honest, he was the first male main character (in a romance story) that I didn't find myself swooning over. I'm not sure why, but he just didn't do it for me. I wish we saw more of Violet, and I hope that the next book reveals more about her because she was one of my favorite characters.

The writing of this book was pretty good. The setting was magical in its descriptions. I truly felt like I was transported to the Roaring Twenties and am interested in looking up other fantasy books set in the same time period.

Overall, a really good book that I enjoyed reading, and will look forward to the upcoming installment.
