Book Review - Recipe for a Charmed Life by Rachel Linden
Recipe for a Charmed Life by Rachel Linden
Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for providing me an advance reader copy of Recipe for a Charmed Life by Rachel Linden. It was not what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. When I initially requested it, it was labeled as a "Sci-Fi, Fantasy" which led me to believe it would contain obvious fantasy elements. But this book had more of a subtle magic vibe, which I very much enjoyed.
Georgia May is a Parisian sous-chef working in a famous restaurant with two Michelin stars. Her lifelong dream, inspired by Julia Child, is to run her own kitchen and be head chef of a restaurant in Paris. One night, after being betrayed, Georgia does something that jeopardizes her dream. She also loses her sense of taste, something that is quite important to chefs. To regain her passion for cooking and her ability to taste, she accepts an offer from her estranged mother to join her on a remote island in Washington. Georgia hopes a break from her strenuous life in Paris is what she needs. But what (and who) she discovers on the island makes her think that her dreams have changed.
I loved each character in this book. Georgia is very relatable and every time she was faced with a decision, I completely understood why she made the specific choice. I thought that her relationship with Star, her estranged mother, was very realistic and grew naturally. Cole was a perfect love interest. He goes from broody and mysterious to confident and strong. The story was super cute, and I loved how everything got wrapped up at the end.
Overall, a cute cozy read.
