Book Review - Second Rite by Geneva Lee Albin
Second Rite by Geneva Lee Albin
Second Rite is the sequel to Filthy Rich Vampire, so don't read on if you don't want spoilers from book one. Unfortunately, my library only had the audiobook for the first book so I had to request Second Rite and read it physically. Regardless, this series is immensely entertaining. I was still reeling from the cliffhanger ending of Filthy Rich Vampire when I started this book, and I needed to know what would happen next.
So, Filthy Rich Vampire leaves off with Julian randomly deciding that he can no longer be with Thea, plus he's a total ass about it and is so mean to her. But don't worry because less than five chapters into Second Rite, they get back together again. This book basically follows them as they go public with their relationship in the vampire world. Things are not easy for them because many people are against it from Julian's own mother Sabine to the Vampire Council. Will love prevail or will their differences force them apart?
So I really enjoyed this book but I do have some gripes. First, it's a little unbelievable how quickly Thea accepted Julian after he literally broke her heart in the meanest way possible. I get that there's some unexplainable bond between them, but he was such an asshole to her and she kind of just forgives him too easily. Second, I feel as though not much actually happened in this book. There was only one major plot point that progressed the story (them going through the second rite). Third, does Thea just forget about her mom? Her mom has literally disappeared and Thea doesn't seem all that concerned to find her since she's distracted with Julian. Last, how did Julian switch up so fast with making Thea his official mate? He was so against tethering her to him and then randomly just changes his mind. Despite these few things, I still enjoyed this story. I love the characters, with one of my favorites still being Jacqueline. I want to see more of the side characters in the future and maybe more interaction between Thea and Julian's brothers and family.
Overall, still a really good read and I'm interested in continuing on in the series.
