Book Review - Slaying the Shadow Prince by Helen Scheuerer
Slaying the Shadow Prince by Helen Scheuerer
Slaying the Shadow Prince is one of the books in the Mortal Enemies to Monster Lovers series in which each book is a standalone written by a different author. I had previously read Slaying the Vampire Conqueror by Carissa Broadbent (who is one of my favorite authors) and I really enjoyed it. This book was a perfectly adequate fantasy romance, but honestly, it didn't stand out to me as anything special.
Drue Emmerson is a ranger with a dark past full of loss. Her kingdom has fallen prey to shadow wraiths, terrifying, evil, and dark creatures who ravage the land and kill her people. Drue has made it her mission to rid the kingdom of as many shadow wraiths as she can. Talemir Starling is a Warsword, a member of an elite group of warriors, and he's also a shadow wraith. When Drue meets Talemir, she immediately knows who he is but has to work with him. Along their travels, Drue realizes that maybe not all monsters are bad.
Like I said earlier, I didn't feel as though this book had any unique or special plot points. It was a very basic romantasy story. I don't think I've read any books about shadow wraiths before so that was interesting. And I did like the characters. I felt as though Drue was a pretty name and quite unusual, and I thought it was funny that Talemir expected her to be a boy.
Overall, a decent romance fantasy read!
