Audiobook Review - Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage
Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage
I have been waiting to read this one since I first heard about it. I had never read a western romance before, but if you know me, you also know that I love Red Dead Redemption 2 and Arthur Morgan. So a western romance is right up my alley, and after this I'll absolutely be looking for more.
Done and Dusted follows Clementine Ryder, who has been riding horses and barrel racing for as long as she can remember. She ended up leaving her hometown of Meadowlark, Wyoming to pursue her barrel racing career. But after an accident leaves her shaken and unable to ride horses, she returns to her hometown to spend some time with her family. And who else will help her get back into the saddle but Luke Brooks, Emmy's oldest brother's best friend?
I was initially drawn to this book by its cover. It's so unique and gorgeous, and I need to buy a physical copy, so I can have it on my shelf. But this book is more than just physically beautiful. Sometimes there is nothing better than a brother's best friend romance. It's like a forbidden love story, and I eat it up every time. I loved Emmy so much, and I thought she and Luke were perfect for each other. I also really liked how Emmy's family was portrayed. Her father, Amos, and brothers, Wes and Gus, were so sweet, and I loved how protective they were over Emmy. But my favorite character by far was Luke. He single-handedly triggered my childhood dream of marrying a cowboy. Hear me out, just imagine a charming cowboy calling you "sugar". Oh, I could melt.
I really loved the story of this book. It was quite simple, with the main focus being on Emmy getting back into riding horses and getting over her fear after the accident. But I really enjoyed listening to the story and would absolutely read the physical copy in the future. My only complaint with the story was that Luke's family situation, with his mother, was a little confusing to me and I didn't feel as if it progressed the story or his character at all.
Overall, this was an amazing read and I loved it and would recommend this to anyone out there looking for a heartwarming western romance.
