Book Review - Flirty Little Secret by Jessica Lepe
Flirty Little Secret by Jessica Lepe
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for providing me with an advance readers copy of Flirty Little Secret by Jessica Lepe. It's set to release on March 19, and I thought it was a nice, simple read.
Flirty Little Secret follows Lucy Galindo, a high school guidance counselor who has a secret popular social media account, @TheMissGuidedCounselor, where she offers advice to other guidance counselors and others in teaching positions. Enter Alrich Fletcher, a history teacher, who took a new teaching position at a public high school (giving up his previous position at a prestigious private school) to be closer to his family. What he doesn't know is that his online friend (TheMissGuidedCounselor) works in the same school, that is, until he figures out that Lucy is her. They both have secrets, but can they get past them?
Honestly, I'm not sure how much I can really write about this book. It wasn't the greatest or my favorite. About twenty-five percent of the way in, I realized that I didn't really connect with the characters or the story, and I basically just finished it to finish it. The characters, although at least in their upper twenties, felt very immature. Fletcher's ex-girlfriend Gretchen also works in the same school and her interactions with both Fletcher and Lucy were just so high-school. It's as if they were all 17, rather than almost 30.
One thing I really enjoyed about this book, however, was the mental health representation. At least that part was well portrayed. But I will say, maybe Lucy needs some more help because her mental health was definitely interfering with her daily life and work.
Overall, just an okay read. It wasn't for me, but I'm sure others would love it.
