Book Review - Happy Medium by Sarah Adler

Happy Medium by Sarah Adler

Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group, Berkley for providing me with an advance reader copy of Happy Medium by Sarah Adler. It's going to be released on April 30, 2024 and I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a nice cozy romance.

Happy Medium follows Gretchen Acorn, a con-artist and pretend medium. She pretends to speak to the dead in order to provide for herself. However, she has a rule that she follows: she will leave her clients better off than they were before they came to her. And one day, Gretchen's client asks her if she would preform an exorcism for one of her friends in exchange for $10,000. The client's friend has been trying to sell his farm since the business is struggling, but an angry ghost has been scaring off all the potential buyer. Gretchen obviously can't refuse and shows up at the farm and finds that the farmer, Charlie, is a handsome young guy who sees right through Gretchen and thinks she's a fraud. But here's the thing, while at the farm, Gretchen genuinely sees a ghost and the ghost tells her that in order to save his life, Gretchen has to convince him to stay on the farm. Will Gretchen be able to save Charlie before it's too late?

This story was really cute. I loved the setting too. Gretchen ends up moving to the goat farm and working with Charlie to prove herself to him. Over the course of a few weeks, Gretchen and Charlie find themselves getting closer. The tension between them was so good. I also really enjoyed the paranormal aspect of this story too. The farm's ghost, Everett Waybill (and Charlie's great uncle or something like that) was so charming and sweet. I loved the friendship that he and Gretchen ended up forming, too.

Happy Medium was a really cute and cozy read. Although it has a little paranormality sprinkled in, it's not spooky, but it's more magical. I still think it would be a really cute read for spooky season, though.
