Book Review - Twisted Love by Ana Huang
Twisted Love by Ana Huang
I wanted to read this book for a while and finally got the opportunity to when I borrowed it from my cousin. I've seen this book hyped up so much on TikTok and Instagram, so I had high expectations going into it.
Twisted Love follows Ava Chen, a woman who's haunted in her nightmares by repressed memories from her childhood. But Ava's childhood trauma hasn't stopped her from seeing the good in the world and the best in people, even people like Alex Volkov. Alex is her brother's best friend, so he's totally off limits, not to mention emotionally unavailable. He's ruthless and unfeeling and has a past that haunts him too. When Ava's brother has to go away on a trip, he asks Alex to watch over his sister to make sure she'll be okay. Will Ava drive Alex insane with her rose-colored world view? Or will she break through his hard exterior and find a softy inside?
I don't know what it is about the whole brother's best friend trope, but I can't get enough. I NEED MORE BROTHER'S BEST FRIENDS!!! It wasn't even like this book portrayed the trope all that well, but I still loved it. I really liked Ava's character, and her optimism was infectious. Alex's cynicism got a bit old, though, honestly. Like, I get that he has this trauma from when he was younger, but does he really think so poorly of the world and of other people that he has to constantly shit on Ava's worldview. Also, he's just overall an asshole, let's just get that out of the way. And kind of a manipulative stalker. But he's hot and rich, so we can excuse all his red flags. These were not my favorite characters from a romance, but they were by no means my least favorite. I still really enjoyed reading about their relationship even though it was a little toxic.
Also, after reading this book, I think karaoke is forever ruined for me.
Overall, I had fun reading this book, even though it was fairly cliché.
