Book Review - The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
I can't remember where I found this book. It might've been at Walmart or Target while perusing the book section. Cozy witchy romances are somewhat of a comfort genre for me because they're always enjoyable and easy to read. The Ex Hex was no exception.
The Ex Hex follows Vivienne Jones, a young witch, who nine years ago cursed her ex-boyfriend after he broke her heart. But it wasn't real magic, right? Well now, Rhys Penhallow, the ex-boyfriend, returns to Graves Glen as one of the descendants of it's founding family to ritually charge the town's ley lines. But things start to spiral out of control as the magic in the town goes haywire. That's when Vivi realizes that nine years ago she actually did succeed in cursing Rhys, and now they have to work together to fix the magic in the town.
The characters in this book were quirky and cute. I didn't really feel much of an emotional attachment to any of them, and for the first time, maybe ever, I didn't even really care to swoon over the male main character. There was nothing wrong with the characters, but I just didn't really feel connected to them. I really enjoyed the friendship between Vivi and Gwen. Even though they're cousins, they feel much more like best friends than family. It's just a sweet dynamic. I do think that Vivi and Rhys were cute together and that they complemented each other.
This story was low-stakes which made it an enjoyable read. There wasn't much drama or too much action so it was just overall an easy read. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an easy, light-hearted read.
