Book Review - Sovereign by Raya Edwards Morris

Sovereign by Raya Edwards Morris

Sovereign was another one of those books that I found through a Facebook group's recommendations. It's advertised as a very spicy, dark romance. But here's the twist, it's got cowboys in it. So I was immediately intrigued. After reading Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage, I've been looking for another good cowboy romance. And Sovereign definitely exceeded my expectations.

Sovereign follows Keira. Keira married Clint Garrison when she was just eighteen years old. The Garrison family is made up of some of Montana's largest ranchers. Gerard Sovereign is the rugged competition of the Garrisons. One day, while conducting business with the Garrisons, he sees how Clint treats Keira, and decides that he wants Keira for himself. When Keira's husband dies suddenly, and leaves the Garrison ranch to her, she realizes that everything is at stake and the only one who can help her is Gerard Sovereign. He offers her an opportunity, where he will protect her if she agrees to be his sub for a year. But is Sovereign's timing really a coincidence?

So this was my first book that delves into the world of BDSM. I'll be honest, I didn't know much about the dynamics of a sub/dom relationship, but this book was actually extremely informative, and it's clear that the author really did their research to try and describe everything as accurately as possible. I really loved Keira and Sovereign. Keira is really strong and just an overall admirable female lead. But Sovereign is so swoon-worthy. Although she starts out a bit cold and unemotional, he grows so much throughout the book. Keira and Sovereign's relationship is so intimate, and you can truly feel how much they care for each other.

This book didn't really have too much of a story because the romance and relationship between Keira and Sovereign was the main focus, but I really enjoyed this book. There was just enough action to keep things interesting.

I really enjoyed reading Sovereign and would recommend it to anyone looking for a darker, spicy romance.
